Part of the acclaimed Documents of Contemporary Art series of anthologies which collect writing on major themes and ideas in contemporary art.

'I welcome this new book about materiality. It explores questions of embodiment in our age of virtuality, and that is no small matter.'

-Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev,
international curator and art historian

This anthology investigates materiality in art that attempts to expand notions of time, space, process or participation. It looks at materials that obstruct, disrupt or interfere with social norms, surfacing as impure formations and messy, unstable substances. It re-examines the notion of 'dematerialization'; addresses materialist critiques of artistic production; surveys the relationship between materiality and bodies; explores the vitality of substances, and the concepts of intermateriality and transmateriality that have emerged in the hybrid zones of digital experimentation.

Artists surveyed include Georges Adéagbo, Carl Andre, Janine Antoni, Amy Balkin, Artur Barrio, Robert Barry, Helen Chadwick, Mel Chin, herman de vries, Mark Dion, Jimmie Durham, VALIE EXPORT, Chohreh Feyzdjou, Romuald Hazoumè, Ilya Kabakov, Mike Kelley, Zoe Leonard, Anthony McCall, Teresa Margolles, Robert Morris, ORLAN, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Tino Seghal, Shozo Starling, Paul Thek, Paul Vanouse, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, and Kara Walker.

Writers include Joseph A. Amato, Karen Barad, Judith Butler, Elizabeth Grosz, Hubert Damisch, Georges Didi-Huberman, Natasha Eaton, Briony Fer, Vilèm Flusser, Jens Hauser, Dieter Hoffmann-Axthelm, Tim Ingold, Wolfgang Kemp, Julia Kristeva, Esther Leslie, Jean François-Lyotard, Sadie Plant, Dietmar Rϋbel, Viktoria Schmidt-Linsenhoff, Simon Taylor, Hilke Wagner, Monika Wagner, and Gillian Whiteley.

Petra Lange-Berndt is Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art at University College London and a leading researcher in the field of material studies in art history. She is co-editor of Sigmar Polke: We Petty Bourgeois! Contemporaries and Comrades, the 1970s (2011).

Its like they knew what I prayed for🙏🏽
Flavor Name: Mint, Size: 3.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Okay, let me start by saying I am a huge skeptic. I need to research things to the nine's and read legit reviews before I buy anything new. I have had cavities from a very young age and receeding gumlines all my life. At age 50, I have gone all natural, got rid of everything toxic, and got really healthy. I have been listening to Dr. HUBERMAN podcast on you tube and found one he did on oral health. He gets very detailed about how to heal your oral health. He spoke specifically about hydroxyapetite and xylitol and their benefits. I then started searching for mouthwashes with these ingredients because i am seriously concerned my teeth are going to fall out from these receeding gums. I have been told all my life there was nothing you can do. I knew in my gut that was a lie. I knew there had to be a way to heal our mouths naturally. Then found BOKA. I got them. I tried them. I lOVE THEM! They are perfect! They are minty fresh, easy to use, makes my mouth feel clean and if they actually do heal my mouth....then awesome sauce! I read all the reviews. I see the after taste. But, i think its a personal choice. I like the after taste. It tastes and feels like a clean mouth. I feel the tinglyness. Yes. But I believe from my health and science background it is the mint, aloe, probiotics and everything else stimulating the skin and blood to start the regeneration of skin and mineral. Im happy to report back again in a month or so with outcome plus before and after photos👍🏽

A tiny natural loofah that cleans well.
I am thoroughly impressed. This little pouch is a game-changer for my skincare routine. It's the perfect size for holding my soap bars, and the natural sisal and ramie materials provide excellent exfoliation without being too harsh on my skin. The design is thoughtful and functional. It creates a rich lather, which makes my soap last longer and ensures a thorough cleanse every time. I love that it's eco-friendly and made from natural fibers, which is important to me as I try to reduce my environmental impact.

This handy little tool holds my soap and exfoliates my skin gently.
I bought this as a bag for my new shampoo bar so it'll last longer. This bag generates a nice lather, hangs off my shower caddy, and allows the bar to dry between uses. Makes shampoo bars much more convenient. The texture of the pouch remains scratchy after 3 or 4 uses so far but it produces a good amount of lather in combination with my bar soap. Hoping it softens up with use. Very good for exfoliating! The bag does have a canvas scent to it, but once you add water and lather up the soap inside it disappears. I love this bag. We always have a bunch of soap pieces in a basket on our tub, and now we can use them till there’s nothing left! My husband's biggest complaint when convincing him to switch to bar soaps with me was that they are so slippery in the shower and difficult to use. This thing is the ANSWER! It's the perfect sudsy, exfoliating grip for bar soaps that is still eco friendly - plus, the string is great for hanging on the shower head after!
