Henri-Edmond Cross: A Pioneer of Pointillism
The Artistic Journey of Henri-Edmond Cross
Henri-Edmond Cross, a prominent figure in the Pointillism movement, was born in 1856 in Douai, France. His artistic journey began in Paris, where he was influenced by the Impressionist movement. Cross's dedication to color theory and light set him apart from his contemporaries. He became known for his vibrant landscapes and seascapes, capturing the essence of nature through innovative techniques.Influences and Inspirations Behind Cross's Work
Cross drew inspiration from the works of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, who were also key figures in the Pointillist style. His travels to the Mediterranean, particularly to the picturesque village of St. Tropez, deeply influenced his art. The stunning coastal scenery and the interplay of light and color in this region inspired Cross to create some of his most celebrated works, including "Boats in the Port of St. Tropez."Boats in the Port of St. Tropez: A Masterpiece of Color and Light
Understanding the Composition: Boats, Water, and Sky
"Boats in the Port of St. Tropez" showcases a harmonious composition of sailboats gently bobbing in the azure waters. The painting captures the lively atmosphere of the port, with the boats serving as focal points against the backdrop of a vibrant sky. Cross expertly balances the elements of water, sky, and boats, creating a dynamic scene that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the coastal charm.Color Palette: The Harmony of Blues, Greens, and Yellows
The color palette of this painting is a stunning blend of blues, greens, and yellows. Cross's use of complementary colors enhances the vibrancy of the scene. The deep blues of the water contrast beautifully with the bright yellows of the sunlit sails. This masterful use of color not only captures the essence of St. Tropez but also evokes feelings of warmth and tranquility.Brushwork Techniques: The Art of Pointillism in Action
Cross employs the Pointillist technique, using small dots of color to create a cohesive image. This method allows for a unique optical blending effect, where the viewer's eye mixes the colors from a distance. The brushwork in "Boats in the Port of St. Tropez" is meticulous, showcasing Cross's skill in manipulating light and shadow to bring the scene to life. The Historical Context of St. Tropez in the Late 19th Century
St. Tropez: A Coastal Haven for Artists and Bohemians
In the late 19th century, St. Tropez emerged as a vibrant hub for artists and bohemians. The picturesque village attracted many painters, writers, and musicians seeking inspiration from its stunning landscapes and lively atmosphere. Cross was among those who found creative freedom in this coastal paradise, contributing to the town's artistic legacy. The Evolution of Maritime Culture in Southern France
During this period, maritime culture flourished in Southern France. The port of St. Tropez became a bustling center for fishing and trade, with colorful boats dotting the harbor. Cross masterfully intertwines these themes, creating a dialogue between the man-made and the natural world.Artistic Techniques: A Closer Look at Pointillism
Defining Pointillism: Dots of Color Creating a Whole
Pointillism is a technique that uses distinct dots of color to form an image. This method allows for a unique visual experience, as the colors blend optically rather than physically. Cross's application of Pointillism in "Boats in the Port of St. Tropez" showcases his innovative approach to capturing light and movement. How Cross Utilizes Light and Shadow in His Work
Cross skillfully manipulates light and shadow to create depth in his paintings. Contrasting with Other Pointillist Artists: Seurat and Signac
When compared to the works of Seurat and Signac, Cross's "Boats in the Port of St. Tropez" stands out for its unique color choices and lively composition. While Seurat often focused on structured scenes, Cross embraced a more spontaneous approach, capturing the essence of leisure and movement in his coastal landscapes.Similarities and Differences with Cross's Other Notable Works

Best Shampoo/Conditioner I Have Ever Used
Scent: Nettle, Scent: Nettle
I purchased the Nettle Shampoo in hopes of getting my hair back to health after frying it off with bleach. I used it for the first time today and it is my favorite thing I have ever purchased for my hair. The smell of this is divine. I am not a sweet gourmand fan and this is just the most fresh scent I ever smelt I think. It honestly smells like a high end salon shampoo/conditioner duo. That is my favorite part about this product.
Second favorite is that it actually does work soooo well! I put in quite a bit of oils and hair care before washing my hair and all of those oils were removed without leaving any waxy greasy feel to my hair. I was concerned it wouldn’t come out because this shampoo is 99% lather free. But it worked SO GOOD! It doesn’t feel dried out and brittle either. It’s just perfect I can’t stress it enough. 10/10 I wish there were more way I can say how much I adore this product.
I have very fine hair by the way and it doesn’t weigh it down.
I will keep using this and will update in maybe a month with pictures!
Here’s the update: I used the shampoo and conditioner for idk probably a month. I’m not really sure. BUT I still absolutely love it. In the pictures I am going to attach, you can see that I had a decent amount of growth (the hair from the root that looks gray). My hair is quite oily after other hair care products were added so that’s why it looks the way it does. One more thing, the shampoo is very drying on the scalp I have noticed a little bit of dandruff and itchiness right after washing but I believe my scalp is getting used to it now because it’s getting less and less noticeable after every use. Keep in mind my hair had been chemically treated during the first week of use multiple times including bleach and box dye so that’s probably why it was irritated.
I still absolutely adore the scent and the way it leaves my hair feeling light and clean and shiny and SOFTTT!

Great product, poorly designed bottles.
Scent: Onion Unscented
I like this product! However, the bottles are heavy, bulky and awkward, what a waste of plastic. The design is poor. The conditioner top was broken, and the product was so thick it was very hard to try and get out of the unyielding bottle when I unscrewed it. Had to ask for a replacement. But it smells great and leaves my hair very soft. I had gotten one for my mother (87) but the bottle was a little much for her, too bad. There's less in it than what it looks like, as it has an inner, smaller container. A lot of trouble and cost to save a small amount of product.

Great product for damaged bleached hair
Scent: Keratin
Great shampoo and conditioner. Smooths the frizzy ends. I bleach my hair and I am unhappy that this product appears to have washed or altered the toner. I have platinum bleached hair and I put a pale blonde toner on it. I waited 4 days after I bleached and toned my hair to use your product and the end result was yellow hair not that beautiful pale blonde color. I will play around with purple shampoo and your product to see if I can find a happy medium because I do love the silky feeling on my damaged over-processed hair. Thanks for developing such a wonderful product for damaged hair

Shiny Hair? Yes please
Scent: Onion Unscented
I have used this product just a few times since buying it. It made my hair shiny and smooth. Very minimal frizz. I bought it after doing research on how women helped their hair before all these hair products came out and Onion water was one of the top answers. After believing that I wanted onion smell in my hair, I came across this product and it actually smells SO NICE. After blow drying my hair, my hair was fuller and bouncier. I saw a difference right away. I have seen less hair in my shower drain and I honestly couldn't be happier with this combo.

Excellent product at a very fair price
Scent: Caffeine
I have been using the caffeine version of this shampoo and conditioner for a little over three months.
I like to give a new shampoo and conditioner about three months before concluding if it’s a hit or a miss.
Originally, I was using the biotin version of this shampoo for approximately two years and was very happy with the results.
I needed to reorder, so I was looking over the other options in this same brand. This brand is considered to be a good quality product. I did do a bit of research before originally purchasing the biotin version.
The biotin version is a lightweight product that did not weigh my hair down with build up over several uses. I ended up needing to use a clarifying shampoo only about once a month, as opposed to once every week.
I have very fine, thin hair and a lot of products I have tried over the years have not worked for me because of the heaviness that leaves my hair flat. I did not have this result with the Bellisso Biotin shampoo.
Bellisso is very well priced, and in my opinion, is comparable to more expensive salon products.
I do like to try new things, so trying a different version of a brand that I was already happy with seemed like it didn’t come with much risk.
Comparing the two versions, biotin vs caffeine:
The biotin option worked very well on my fine, thin hair. The shampoo had a bit of a lower amount of foaming, but it did get my hair clean. The biotin conditioner also worked well, and was easy to rinse out and did not leave a residue on my hair.
The caffeine version is very different than the biotin version, but neither in a good way or a bad way. Just different.
I noticed that much less product of the caffeine shampoo and conditioner is needed to get the job done. The amount of product needed is probably highly dependent on your particular hair, so keep in mind, I probably have less hair than most people.
The shampoo foams ALOT. I didn’t mind this at all. Per the instructions on the bottle, you are supposed to apply and massage your scalp and rinse after 2-3 minutes so the caffeine can be absorbed into your scalp, so having that extra foaming helps. This is meant to stimulate circulation in the scalp, and promote hair growth. If you are the girl that is always in a hurry, this is probably not the version of this shampoo for you :)
The caffeine conditioner goes a very long way, so best to start with half as much as you normally use and go from there.
All in all, I’m happy with both versions and I would definitely consider trying another version of this brand.
I would highly recommend this brand in whichever version suits your personal hair type and needs.
The price is right, as is the quality.
