Etac Clean Height Adjustable Shower Commode Chair

The Etac Clean Height Adjustable Shower Commode has been the standard reference point for attendant-propelled shower commodes since 1999 — and the reason it's still the chair OTs reach for first is that the design is genuinely well thought out. It's slim enough to navigate a tight residential bathroom, the seat adjusts in one-inch increments from 18¾" to 23½" without tools, and the upright push handle is positioned so the chair clears wall-mounted toilets that trip up most other rolling commodes. The frame is powder-coated steel tubing, the seat and supports are polypropylene — all of it water-resistant and cleanable.

The ergonomic seat has a front recess and is fully open at the rear, which improves both comfort and caregiver access during hygiene. Brake handles sit under the seat rather than at the sides — easy to reach without bending, and out of the way during transfers. Armrests swing away or remove entirely. The foot support slides under the seat quickly when not needed. At 21.5" wide overall it fits through standard doorways without difficulty.

Why does the seat height range matter so much on this chair?
Because the chair needs to roll over your toilet at the right height — not just clear the bowl, but position the user correctly for hygiene. Standard toilets sit at 15–17", comfort-height at 17–19". The Clean adjusts in one-inch increments from 18¾" to 23½", which covers both toilet types and accommodates a wide range of user leg lengths. Getting this right is what makes the chair usable day-to-day.

Can it be used over a wall-mounted toilet?
Yes — this is one of the few rolling commodes specifically designed for wall-mounted toilets. The upright push handle is positioned so it doesn't interfere with the toilet mounting hardware, which most standard commode push handles do.

How do the brake handles work?
They're positioned under the seat rather than on the sides — the caregiver reaches down to engage or release each wheel rather than reaching across the chair. It sounds like a small difference but it's significantly easier in practice, especially during transfers where you need both hands free.

Can the user transfer from either side?
Yes. The armrests swing fully away or detach on both sides, and the foot support slides under the seat or removes completely — so lateral transfers from the left or right are equally accessible.

Is it cleanable in a washer-disinfector?
Yes — the chair can be cleaned in a cabinet washer-disinfector at up to 85°C/185°F for 3 minutes, or wiped down with a 70% disinfectant solution or pH 5–9 solvent-free cleaner. For immunocompromised users or high-use situations this is a meaningful spec.

What accessories are available?
