Filges Wooden Lucet Braiding Fork for Viking Cords and Wool Rope MakingA wooden braiding fork made in Germany by Filges Wool & Craft. Also called a knitting fork or a lucet, this lovely wooden craft tool is used for making braided cords. The tool and technique date from the Middle Ages and were used by the Vikings for making wool rope. It's easy to use and great for making long lengths of cord for cubby making and all sorts of play activities. Much easier for little fingers to master than the knitting nancy and a step up
A wooden braiding fork made in Germany by Filges Wool & Craft. Also called a knitting fork or a lucet, this lovely wooden craft tool is used for making braided cords. The tool and technique date from the Middle Ages and were used by the Vikings for making wool rope. It's easy to use and great for making long lengths of cord for cubby making and all sorts of play activities. Much easier for little fingers to master than the knitting nancy and a step up from finger knitting.
In contrast to cords that are made with tools like a braid star, these cords consist of a series of loops that could be considered knotted. This creates a very sturdy elastic square cord that does not fully unravel when a thread snaps. There is no limit to the length so you can have lots of fun making very long strong cords.
A wonderful way to introduce your child to the world of wool craft and an excellent craft tool for the Steiner Curriculum. Fun in Kindergarten and Class 1, and perfect for Class 4 when the Vikings are studied.
Yarn not included. This wooden lucet fork is a craft item, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 3 years.
Size: Length 16cm
Recommended age: From 3 years. Not suitable for children under 36 months.
Brand: Filges Wool & Craft
Manufactured in: Germany
Material: Oiled birch wood from locally-owned forestry in Estonia
About Filges Wool and Craft: Filges is a family enterprise that began in 1985 with a small manual spinning mill. They then added their dying mill, using only plant colors, and then in 1995 became a Bioland, organic certified manufacturer of sheep wool. All wool using in Filges products comes exclusively from non-mulsed sheep raised in Germany, on certified organic farms. All the dyes are plant-based, and alum and tartar are used as mordents.
