COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Elderly Care Fundamentals & Best Practices course. This program will equip you with the knowledge and capabilities required to understand the historical development of elderly care practices, the current trends and challenges shaping the sector, and the growing importance of high-quality care for an ageing population. You will explore the physiological changes associated with ageing, cognitive development including memory and cognition, the psychological aspects of ageing that influence mental health and well-being, and the most common health conditions experienced by older individuals across care environments.

This course begins by examining the principles of person-centred care and the essential practices that uphold dignity and respect for elderly individuals. This section explains the development and use of individualised care plans, the importance of incorporating personal preferences, how to empower independence and autonomy, and the ethical considerations that underpin professional decision-making. You will explore informed consent, privacy and confidentiality requirements, and end-of-life ethics including the role of advance directives in care planning.

Another area of learning focuses on communication techniques used when interacting with elderly individuals. You will examine effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, how to apply active listening skills, and how to address communication barriers arising from sensory decline, cognitive impairment, cultural differences, or emotional distress. This section explains how to adapt communication methods to support clarity, comfort, and trust in care interactions.

A further area of learning explores the nutritional needs of ageing bodies and the importance of meal planning and dietary modifications. You will examine hydration requirements, strategies for monitoring intake, and the ways physiological changes affect digestion, metabolism, and nutritional needs. This section explains how to assess mobility and functional abilities, how assistive devices and mobility aids support safe movement, and how to apply fall risk assessment and prevention techniques to minimise injuries in care environments.

The next area of learning examines polypharmacy and medication safety. You will explore adherence strategies, medication reminder systems, and the importance of monitoring and reporting side effects. This section explains assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, transferring, ambulation, toileting, and incontinence care, along with the importance of maintaining dignity, independence, and comfort during routine care.

Another area of learning focuses on cognitive stimulation activities and dementia-related care. You will examine the different types of dementia and their progression, and learn how person-centred approaches support emotional well-being and behavioural stability. This section explains end-of-life care and palliative support, including comfort care, symptom management, emotional support for families and carers, advance care planning, and the role of hospice services in providing holistic end-of-life support.

A further area of learning explores cultural sensitivity and respect in elderly care. You will examine cultural beliefs about ageing, cultural preferences regarding care, and considerations for language and communication across diverse populations. This section explains the legal and regulatory frameworks governing elderly care, including elder abuse prevention and reporting, health care proxy and power of attorney arrangements, and compliance with standards and requirements across different care settings.

The final area of learning examines self-care for caregivers and strategies for preventing burnout. You will explore stress management techniques, how to balance work-life responsibilities, and the importance of seeking support and resources to maintain well-being. This section explains how healthy lifestyle practices can strengthen resilience and sustain high-quality care delivery even in demanding caregiving environments.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand age-related physiological, cognitive and psychological changes, apply person-centred and ethically sound care practices, communicate effectively with elderly individuals, support nutrition and hydration needs, assess mobility and prevent falls, promote medication safety, assist with daily living activities, deliver dementia-informed and end-of-life care, apply cultural and legal requirements, recognise and prevent elder abuse, and implement self-care strategies that sustain long-term caregiving effectiveness and professional well-being.

Our Yorkie Puppy Loves This Toy!!!
Color: Red
Warning: your pet may become completely obsessed I’ve had this toy for about a year for my Yorkshire Terrier, Gia, and it’s easily the most successful toy purchase I’ve ever made. We even had to replace the first one after she loved it a little too much (chewed the string off), and have since bought more as gifts for friends’ pets. Great toy for small dogs (too fragile for bigger dogs) and active, young cats.) What we love: * Endless engagement: Gia ignores all her other toys and goes straight for this every time * Interactive features: Subtle beeping + changing colored lights + unpredictable rolling patterns keep her hooked * Energy burner: Perfect for indoor play on hardwood floors—she will chase it nonstop * Rechargeable: Battery lasts several hours, even with frequent use * Durability: Holds up well considering how rough she plays Real-life note: Gia will literally bring this toy to me to get me involved—and I have to limit her playtime because she won’t stop on her own. Bottom line: If you have a high-energy dog (or even a playful cat), this isn’t just a toy—it becomes their favorite activity… and possibly their entire personality.

I wanted it to be a good fit
Color: Red
This toy garnered my dogs attention for a day. We tried it inside but there's too many places it would go under. We tried ot outside and it was powerful enough in the grass so tried concrete patio. My dog lost interest sadly. It wasn't a good product for my dog.

My pup loved it.
Color: Red
“Bought this for my dog Loki and it was an instant hit. He usually loses interest in toys pretty quickly, but this ball kept him entertained way longer than expected. The lights and movement immediately grabbed his attention, and he spent a solid hour chasing, pawing, and carrying it around the house. It’s durable enough for excited play, easy to charge/use, and even survived Loki’s dramatic ‘victory laps’ through the living room. Bonus: it tired him out enough for an actual nap afterward. Definitely worth it for high-energy dogs or curious pets.”

Great toy to occupy pet
Color: Red, Color: Red
This ball is super fast, and lasts very long on one charge. It really keeps my cat entertained, he’s just so curious about it. It’s easy to pick out dust any hair it might catch on, it’s rubber material is durable. It’s a stable toy since my cat likes to play roughly.

Great for Puppies!
Color: Red
This toy has been a great purchase for my new puppy! He has so much fun playing with it and stays engaged for long periods. While it can move a little fast at first, the adjustable speed settings make it easy to customize. Overall, it’s a fantastic toy that keeps him active, entertained, and happy.
