This is the question Michael Torres ponders as he explores the roles that names, hometown, language, and others' perceptions each play on our understanding of ourselves in An Incomplete List of Names. More than a boyhood ballad or a coming-of-age story, this collection illuminates the artist's struggle to make sense of the disparate identities others have forced upon him. His description of his childhood is both idyllic and nightmarish, sometimes veering between the two extremes, sometimes a surreal combination of both at once. He calls himself "the Pachuco's grandson" or REMEK or Michael, depending on the context, and others follow his lead. He worries about losing his identification card, lest someone mistake his brown skin for evidence of a crime he never committed. He wonders what his students--imprisoned men who remind him of his high school friends and his own brother--make of him. He wonders how often his neighbors think about where he came from, if they ever do imagine where he came from. Simple, fragrance-free base lotion that plays well under sunscreen
Size: 18 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I bought this as a moisturizing base before beach days, on my dermatologist s-style routine: at home I apply this lotion first, let it sink in, then tanning cream, and then layer broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF) on top. The goal was an even, soft, brown tan without that tight, dry feeling after sun and salt. In this role, it worked well for me. I didn’t finish the bottle over the season, and now I use it after the shower as my everyday body lotion.
Why I chose it (and what actually “works” here):
It’s fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, so it’s basic and gentle.
The key active is colloidal oatmeal, a classic skin protectant that helps soothe and support the moisture barrier.
Value for money was the clincher: a big bottle, simple formula, no extras I don’t need.
Real-life notes from first use:
It’s not ultra-rich (don’t expect a heavy occlusive butter), but as a daily hydrator or under-SPF base, it’s reliable and comfortable .The texture is fast-absorbing and non-greasy on my slightly dry skin.
So, a straightforward, affordable oatmeal lotion that kept my skin calm under sunscreen in summer and now does the job after showers. No complaints—just a workhorse moisturizer that earns its keep.
