Contributors to this volume illuminate Ishi the person, his relationship to anthropologist A. L. Kroeber and others, his Yahi world, and his enduring and evolving legacy for the twenty-first century. Ishi in Three Centuries features recent analytic translations of Ishi's stories, new information on his language, craft skills, and his personal life in San Francisco, with reminiscences of those who knew him and A. L. Kroeber. Multiple sides of the repatriation controversy are showcased and given equal weight. The History Teacher I Always Wished For

With his trademark wit and his eye for those wonderfully absurd details that most historians tend to overlook, Metaxas drew me deeply into the story. I found myself laughing out loud one moment and profoundly moved the next. The tiny anecdotes and humorous asides were not distractions at all — they were precisely what made these towering figures suddenly feel human and unforgettable.
Eric makes these historical figures flesh-and-blood again. He brings both heroes and villains vividly to life in a way that makes the drama of America’s birth feel immediate, thrilling, and deeply personal.
In short, Eric Metaxas is the history teacher I always wished I had. At 600 pages, this book reads with the ease and momentum of a paperback novel, yet carries extraordinary depth and scholarship. In the end, I came away with a renewed love for American history and a deeper gratitude for the souls who made this great country possible.

A fun, inspiring, thought-provoking read.
Format: Kindle
A witty, learned page-turner, replete with wacky anecdotes but suffused by wisdom and patriotic love. Metaxas shows how the biblical view of the human person made America possible, and weaves throughout the story pieces of evidence that Providence actively aided the pious patriots against their cynical, post-Christian enemies in Britain. I devoured this book in 72 hours, and now I want to go back and read it again.
