Hooking UpOnly yesterday boys and girls spoke of embracing and kissing (necking) as getting to first base. Second base was deep kissing, plus groping and fondling this and that. Only yesterday boys and girls spoke of embracing and kissing (necking) as getting to first base. Second base was deep kissing, plus groping and fondling this and that. Third base was oral sex. Home plate was going all the way. That was yesterday. Here in the Year 2000 we can forget about necking. Today's girls and boys have never heard of anything that dainty. Today first base is deep kissing, now known as tonsil hockey, plus groping and fondling this and that. Second base is oral sex. Third base is going all the way. Home plate is being introduced by name.

And how rarely our hooked-up boys and girls are introduced by name -as Tom Wolfe has discovered from a survey of girls' File-o-Fax diaries, to cite but one of Hooking Up's displays of his famed reporting prowess. Wolfe ranges from coast to coast chronicling everything from the sexual manners and mores of teenagers... to fundamental changes in the way human beings now regard themselves thanks to the hot new field of genetics and neuroscience. . . to the inner workings of television's magazine-show sting operations.

Printed here in its entirety is "Ambush at Fort Bragg," a novella about sting TV in which Wolfe prefigured with eerie accuracy three cases of scandal and betrayal that would soon explode in the press. A second piece of fiction, "U. R. Here," the story of a New York artist who triumphs precisely because of his total lack of talent, gives us a case history preparing us for Wolfe's forecast ("My Three Stooges," "The Invisible Artist") of radical changes about to sweep the arts in America.

As an espresso after so much full-bodied twenty-first-century fare, we get a trip to Memory Mall. Reprinted here for the first time are Wolfe's two articles about The New Yorker magazine and its editor, William Shawn, which ignited one of the great firestorms of twentieth-century journalism. Wolfe's afterword about it all is in itself a delicious draught of an intoxicating era, the Twistin' Sixties.

In sum, here is Tom Wolfe at the height of his powers as reporter, novelist, sociologist, memoirist, and-to paraphrase what Balzac called himself-the very secretary of American society in the 21st century.

Great feel and quality, will buy again
Size: 5.5 INCH
These are gorgeous! The thick, heavy look and feel that I was hoping for, great screws to match (we used different anchors, since the provided anchors are not the strongest style). Similar ones at the local big-name hardware store are at least three times the price and are no better quality. I would (and will) definitely buy these again for more projects. Originally bought the six of these even though I only needed two because the price was still the best I could find, and ended up using all six almost immediately. They look so good, I found more projects for them!

Nice looking. A bit too much flexibility. Did the job.
Size: 11.25 INCH, Size: 11.25 INCH
We made use of these shelving brackets in our kitchen remodel. They turned out great. We used 2x12 Douglas Fur boards that were sanded and painted to show contrast with the brackets. The brackets installed easy enough with a level, tape measure, pencil, and a drill for pilot holes. Other reviewers are correct: the mounting screws that come with it are essentially junk. I had read this and ordered black wood screws ahead of time with the hopes of returning them. I used the 1" screws to secure the shelving to the brackets. The 2-1/2" screws get to go back as we were able to use the included screws to secure the brackets to the wall. But, two of the first three heads on the 1" screws popped off... so, we quickly moved away from those included. There is a little more flex in the brackets than I had expected... they're just a little too thin for 11-1/2" shelves. It won't affect anything for us as we'll just be placing dry food and canned goods on them in our pantry. But, if I were using them for the garage or the shop I'd probably buy a different brand OR decrease the space between brackets. I spaced mine out 12" from each edge and then 12" on center. Works well for our pantry.

Real good quality. Better price then Menards. Missing screws.
Size: 5.5 INCH
Real good quality, very sturdy, and it came with screws and drywall anchors. I would recommend. Only thing is it came with twice the drywall anchors that I needed and missing 2 screws. Not a big deal for me, but someone without screws laying around would have to buy a whole box for 2 screws. Other then that, it’s a good product and would buy again.

Amazing quality brackets
Size: 7.25 INCH, Size: 7.25 INCH
When I received my order I was very impressed with how the brackets were packaged. Once opened up, the steel brackets are amazing quality, and comes with all the screws needed. The only downsize is the screws are lower quality so by the time I got them in they were stripping where the screw driver sits. Same with the drywall attachments. I only used two dry wall attachments per shelf because I didn’t want to ruin my walls with giant holes. It seems to hold adequate weight. I put the regular screws in the bottom holes and through the wood to secure shelf from sliding. Overall I am very pleased. I will be ordering again when I do my bathroom shelves.
