"The story of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor is legend, but here it is told through a remarkable collection of intimate letters that have been totally unknown to the public."

It was the most scandalous love affair of the century -- that of Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson, the woman for whom he gave up his throne. By now the story of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor is of course legend. But here it is told as never before -- through a remarkable collection of intimate letters that have been totally unknown to the public until now. At the heart of this volume are the extraordinary letters exchanged by the lovers themselves, from their improbable first meeting in 1931 -- Wallis socially obscure, Edward then Prince of Wales -- till the moment they married at the Chateau de Candé in 1937. Perhaps the most romantic documents of our time, they chart the course of Edward's overwhelming passion for Wallis, dramatically illuminating the mystery of their attraction. "God bless WE forever my Wallis," he writes to her. The letters are also of considerable historical importance, as they completely alter our opinion of the Duchess's role; it is now disclosed that she desperately tried to prevent the abdication through a secret plan. The letters reveal, too, what really transpired between the ex-King and his family. In addition to the correspondence between the lovers are Wallis's letters to her favorite aunt, Bessie Merryman, when Wallis was still married to Ernest Simpson, a conventional London businessman, and striving for a place in society. Not only do these letters provide a fascinating account of Wallis's developing relationship with the man born to be King, but they create a striking view of life in London in the years between the wars. Indeed, one discovers an extraordinary counterpoint between the middle-class world Wallis inhabits at Bryanston Court, where she is burdened with money problems and servant troubles, and the "dream" world of the Prince of Wales which gradually takes over. In the course of the letters to Aunt Bessie, we see Wallis transformed from an ordinary matron to the most talked about woman on earth, surrounded by the likes of Lady Cunard, Lady Diana Cooper, Lord Mountbatten, Lord Beaverbrook and Winston Churchill, vacationing in Cannes, Biarritz and aboard luxury yachts. Enormously moving and revealing, Wallis and Edward is finally the portrait of a more elegant age and of the two individuals who typified it. Michael Bloch, who spent six years of research in the Windsor archives in Paris, has masterfully assembled and annotated the letters.

Great home office dividers!
Size: 3-Panel
Needed something to create a home office that would stand on an uneven basement floor. These are the perfect solution! No prying eyes and only took me an hour to put up both sets by myself, pretty easy. They are completely opaque.

Fine Simple Product, Works as Advertised
Size: 3-Panel
Performs as advertised, a simple upright divider. I use it to mark my "office" space when working from home. Assembly was straightforward and well documented. One person can do it, but a second person can be helpful when sliding the fabric divider pieces onto their poles. Part quality is fine for the price point. The only mild annoyance is that the upright poles can start getting loose from the metal feet, and need to be retightened occasionally (Allen wrench is included, keep it handy for retightening). It's fairly lightweight and easy to reposition, but the feet are heavy enough to keep it steady once placed. All in all, a good product. I was pleased enough to buy a second one when my son wanted something to block sunlight from behind his computer desk.

Wobbly and Poor Design
Size: 1-Panel
Update: nope! Not worth the money. My cat simply brushed against the divider, and it fell, knocking breakable things over. Not safe! It serves it's purpose, but...the screws were basically glued to the packaging. It took me longer to get the screws out of the packaging than it did to put it together. The assembly was easy. I am not mechanically inclined by any means, but the instructions, despite being very hard to read (I have over 40 eyes), were pretty simple. Structurally, it is very wobbly. I think they should have designed it with a middle rod to keep it more stable. I find that the attachments to the rods are wobbly and should have been screwed rather than popped into an attachment hole without reinforcement. That would have also made the room divider more stable. I have cats, but the material is easy to clean. I took a damp cloth to it, and it came right off. As far as see-through...I think it does a great job of masking theO other side of the room.. I just wish it was a little longer and closer to the floor stand. I like that it came with extra parts. It's just a very cheaply made item, and I don't think the price for the item reflects how cheaply it is made, how wobbly and unstable it is, or the poor design.
