Engineered for robust UHF communications, the Telex ALP-600 Bi-Directional Antenna delivers reliable reception across the entire 520 MHz to 760 MHz spectrum. Designed to outperform standard whip antennas, the ALP-600 uses a log-periodic structure to maximize signal capture, increase range, and improve clarity in demanding environments. Whether you’re outfitting a studio, a field communications setup, a venue, or an industrial facility, this antenna is built to help you stay connected where it matters most. Its directional design means you can optimize your receive path by carefully aiming the unit toward the transmitter, making it ideal for fixed installations with predictable signal sources as well as temporary setups where signal strength varies with location. The combination of broad frequency coverage, higher perceived gain, and the precision of a log-periodic element makes the ALP-600 a practical choice for professionals who need dependable UHF reception without compromising on installation flexibility or durability.

  • Frequency coverage from 520 MHz to 760 MHz for broad UHF compatibility and the ability to capture signals across the entire UHF band used in many professional communications systems.
  • Higher gain than a typical whip antenna, enabling reception from greater distances and providing a more robust link in challenging environments with potential interference or obstructions.
  • Log-periodic directional design that concentrates sensitivity toward the signal source, helping you optimize reception by orienting the antenna toward the transmitter for the strongest possible signal.
  • Bi-Directional configuration delivers flexible reception within the UHF spectrum, allowing effective coverage in locales where signals arrive from more than one direction or where transmitter placement varies over time.
  • Easy integration with a wide range of UHF receivers and radio systems, with a straightforward mounting approach and a build designed to withstand real-world use in professional settings.

Technical Details of Telex ALP-600 UHF Bi-Directional Antenna

Note: The ALP-600’s core strengths are its broad 520–760 MHz coverage, its log-periodic design for directional performance, and its capacity to deliver improved signal reach over conventional whip antennas. Its compact form factor and robust construction make it suitable for wall mounts, mast installations, or other high-visibility or high-traffic locations where reliable UHF reception is critical. When planning installation, consider both line of sight to the transmitter and the potential impact of nearby metal structures, which can reflect or absorb signals and influence the antenna’s radiation pattern. With proper placement and orientation, the ALP-600 can deliver a meaningful improvement in signal reliability and overall system performance.

How to install Telex ALP-600 UHF Bi-Directional Antenna

  • Step 1: Plan your installation by selecting a mounting location with a clear line of sight to the anticipated transmitter. Avoid placing the antenna behind large metal obstacles or inside crowded, metallic enclosures that could degrade performance. Consider potential environmental factors such as wind, rain, and temperature variations that could affect long-term stability.
  • Step 2: Prepare your mounting hardware. Depending on the installation site, you may use a wall bracket, mast clamp, or pole mount. Ensure that all hardware is rated for outdoor use if the installation is exposed to weather. Gather the feedline and ensure you have compatible connectors for your radio or receiver.
  • Step 3: Secure the ALP-600 to the chosen mounting point. Tighten hardware firmly to prevent movement or vibration, which can misalign the antenna and degrade performance. If you are mounting outdoors, apply appropriate sealing or weatherproofing measures to protect connectors and exposed sections from moisture.
  • Step 4: Connect the feedline from the antenna to your UHF receiver or radio. Use quality coaxial cable and appropriate connectors to minimize signal loss. Keep the feedline as short as possible and route it away from sources of interference, such as motors, high-power transmitters, or power lines, to preserve signal integrity.
  • Step 5: Align the antenna toward the transmitter. Because the ALP-600 is a log-periodic directional antenna, how you orient it will impact reception. Slowly adjust the angle and azimuth while monitoring signal strength on your receiver. Once you achieve a stable, clear signal, secure all adjustment hardware and perform a final check under typical operating conditions.

Frequently asked questions

  • What frequencies does the Telex ALP-600 cover? It covers 520 MHz to 760 MHz within the UHF band, making it suitable for a wide range of professional UHF communications.
  • Is the ALP-600 truly directional? Yes. Its log-periodic design provides directional reception, so performance improves when the antenna is aimed toward the transmitter and is optimized by careful orientation and placement.
  • How does the gain compare to a standard whip antenna? The ALP-600 is described as having higher gain than a typical whip, which translates to more effective reception over longer distances and in environments with potential signal challenges.
  • Can I use the ALP-600 with any UHF radio system? It is designed for use with UHF systems operating in the 520–760 MHz range and should be matched with compatible receivers or transceivers and appropriate connectors. Always verify compatibility with your equipment.
  • What installation considerations should I keep in mind? Prioritize line-of-sight to the transmitter, minimize obstructions, secure mounting, protect exposed connectors from moisture, and test signal strength after installation to find the best orientation for your location.

Perfect Repair
Color: Cherry, Size: 2.4"x 15ft
We purchased a used secretary with hutch, and it had some damage on the veneered decoration on the hutch doors. I discovered this product and ordered the closest match I could find. It was easy to cut to fit and the price was amazing. It looks so good that you could not easily find the repair and I am very happy.

Professional look overall
Color: Birch, Size: 1/2"x 25ft
Installing the edging worked best with a heat gun vs a blow dryer, Adhesive was average, some areas adhered well while some spots kept lifting. The areas where the edging is connected to create the continuous link are very visible and will not blend well when painted. I had more waste by trying to avoid these sections. The edging is easy to cut. I used 220 sand paper to blend the areas where the edging was too wide for the project edge after trimming. Be careful not to over sand the edging. I found both the 1/2 in and 3/4 in are both wider than 1/2 in and 3/4 in plywood. Expect extra time to trim the excess. The edging is flexible and easy to use when working with curved edges. Overall, the edging still gave my projects a professional look.

A Good Solution for Rough Edges of Wood.
Color: Birch, Size: 1"x 25ft, Color: Birch, Size: 1"x 25ft
This is a great product. We needed to recover the booth in our motorhome because the faux leather is peeling. The booth is made of plywood and has rough edges. We opted to cover the booth with heavy wallpaper, but needed something to cover the rough edges. This product is really affordable and very easy to use. It adheres pretty well. We had planned on painting the wood veneer edging, but we decided that the wood tone fit right in with the rest of the trim in the motorhome so we left it raw. While I bought 1" because that is mostly what we needed, some other areas were only 3/4" wide. It was so easy to run an Exacto knife along the extra edge and trim it smoothly.

You get what you pay for. Won't order again.
Color: Birch, Size: 1/2"x 100ft, Color: Birch, Size: 1/2"x 100ft
Inconsistent width, and soft glue. The veneer is so thin you can see the plywood layers under it in places. The 1/2" width varies from 0.55" to 0.45" and was too narrow to cover the edge of my 0.46" plywood in spots. Even when fully cooled (left some pieces overnight before trimming) the glue is soft and tacky, and loads up on the edge banding trimmer blade. I was able to cover all my pieces, so I still gave it 3 stars. But I won't order it again. It's not worth the couple of dollars I saved. I also ordered a roll of 3/4 and threw it away. Same issues, and the color was way too light (looked more like raw maple than birch)
