artist bio
Kerstin Bränngård-Sandberg was a Swedish artist, illustrator, glass and textile artist born in 1917 in Stockholm.
Bränngård-Sandberg came from an artistic family - her father was sculptor Gustaf Sandberg and her mother textile artist Greta Sjunnersson . She studied sculpture with her father, Oller's painting school between 1941 and 1943, followed by painting at Grünewalds painting school from 1943 to 1945, and at Académie de la Grande Chaumiere, Paris, She studied glass under renowned Swedish glass artist Erik Höglund. She painted portraits, animals and landscapes in oil, watercolours and graphite. Her glass art is architectural sculptures and stained-glass windows.
Bränngård-Sandberg created numerous public art pieces in various mediums including wall murals in Rossön and Strömsund, wall hanging textiles in the hospitals in Backe and Östersund as well as Frösö church, glass work for windows in churches in Fjällsjö, Bodum and Odensala, and a freestanding sculpture at Jämtkraft.
Together with her parents, she exhibited in Östersund in 1946, with her father in Sollefteå in 1947 together with Folke Jakobsson and Margareta Hyltén-Cavallius-Gontcaroff in Backe in 1961. During the 1950s and 1960s she was a regular exhibitor of the Östersund Art Association's autumn and Vårsalonger. She exhibited at National Museum in Stockholm, Liljevalch's Salon, Konstnärshuset, Stockholm City Museum, Lidingö City Hall, Östersund, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Trondheim, and the Salon in Paris. Her work is represented in several of Sweden's municipalities and county councils, the Swedish Arts Council, the Folkets Hus, and the Jämtland County Museum.
She passed away at the age of 102 on 19 April, 2020 in Solna district.
