Upgrade your workspace with a turnkey USB-to-fiber solution that brings high-speed Gigabit Ethernet right to your desk. The Tripp Lite by Eaton U336-1G-SFP is more than a simple USB adapter; it’s a flexible, future-ready link between USB devices and fiber networks. Built for fiber-to-the-desk deployments, this adapter lets you unlock the performance and reliability of fiber optics without ripping out your existing devices. Whether you’re equipping a home office, a corporate workstation, or a remote branch, this device makes it easy to extend your fiber backbone exactly where you need it, delivering consistent throughput, improved security, and reduced electromagnetic interference compared with traditional copper Ethernet.

  • Seamless USB-to-fiber bridge: Turn any USB-A computer, laptop, or tablet into a robust fiber-connected endpoint. This adapter leverages USB 3.2 Gen 1 to provide ample headroom for Gigabit Ethernet traffic and smooth multimedia streaming, software updates, and large file transfers over a fiber link.
  • Open SFP port for flexible optics: The U336-1G-SFP features an open SFP port that accepts compatible singlemode or multimode transceivers. This design gives you the flexibility to match your existing fiber infrastructure, choose cost-effective transceivers, and scale your network as needs evolve—without being locked into a fixed module.
  • 1310 nm performance for long-haul and campus use: The included 1310 nm optics are ideal for many campus, enterprise, and data-center scenarios. This wavelength provides efficiency and low dispersion over standard fiber runs, helping maintain signal integrity across moderate distances while supporting reliable Ethernet speeds.
  • Compact LC connector for a tidy setup: With an LC duplex connector, the adapter integrates neatly into compact office racks and desktop arrangements. The LC interface pairs with common fiber cabling and transceivers, enabling clean, reliable connections in dense work environments.
  • Designed for fiber-to-the-desk deployments: Specifically engineered to bring fiber connectivity right to individual workstations, this adapter helps you modernize networks without reworking cabinets or sprawling switches. It empowers IT teams to extend fiber benefits—lower latency, greater bandwidth, and improved immunity to electrical interference—directly to each user.

How to Install Tripp Lite USB 3.2 Gen 1 to Fiber Optic Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Install this adapter quickly and confidently to unlock fiber connectivity from your USB-enabled device. The steps below assume you have a compatible SFP transceiver and fiber cabling on hand.

  • Select and prepare your SFP transceiver: Choose a compatible SFP module that supports 1310 nm operation for singlemode or multimode fiber, depending on your network. Confirm the module is rated for your cable type and distance requirements, then insert it firmly into the open SFP port on the adapter until it seats.
  • Connect fiber cabling: Attach the LC fiber cable to the transceiver, ensuring a solid click and secure alignment. Route the fiber cable to the destination network device (such as a switch, router, or patch panel) and connect the other end to the corresponding fiber port.
  • Link the USB side: Insert the USB-A connector into a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port on your computer, laptop, or tablet. For optimal performance, use a dedicated USB port rather than a shared hub, and avoid daisy-chaining other USB devices that could create bandwidth contention.
  • Configure the network: Depending on your OS, you may need to install a driver for the Ethernet function or rely on the operating system’s built-in drivers. In most environments, the system will recognize the device as a standard Ethernet adapter once the SFP module and fiber link are active.
  • Test and verify: Open your network settings and verify that a Gigabit link is established. Run a quick throughput test to confirm speeds align with your fiber transceiver’s capabilities, and ensure latency remains within acceptable bounds for your applications.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What devices is this adapter compatible with?

A: It connects USB-A devices to a fiber network through an open SFP port, enabling Ethernet over fiber for desktops, laptops, and tablets with USB-A ports. It is a versatile solution for office workstations, thin clients, and multi-user environments where fiber connectivity is desired without replacing entire workstations.

  • Q: What speeds can I expect?

A: The adapter supports 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, delivering reliable Gigabit performance over fiber when paired with an appropriate SFP transceiver and fiber link. Actual speeds depend on the SFP module, fiber type, distance, and network conditions.

  • Q: Do I need to buy a separate SFP module?

A: Yes. The open SFP port requires a suitable SFP transceiver that matches your fiber type (singlemode or multimode) and distance. Pair with LC fiber cables and your existing fiber backbone to complete the installation.

  • Q: Is this device power-hungry?

A: It is designed to be powered via the USB connection, typically requiring no external power adapter for standard operation. If you operate under heavy network load or require additional cooling, monitor the device and ensure it remains within safe operating temperatures.

  • Q: Can I use this adapter with any operating system?

A: The adapter generally works with a broad range of operating systems that support USB-to-Ethernet devices and standard SFP-based Ethernet interfaces. In some cases, you may need to install or update drivers depending on the OS and the specific SFP module in use. Always verify compatibility with your OS and transceiver before purchase.

Strong beginner paddle.
Color: 1 Blue
I have been using the LiberAla Pickleball Paddle for some of my beginner lessons and let me tell you—this thing is a game changer. My students gave some of their first impressions: "First off, it feels like holding a wand. A very powerful wand, mind you." "I picked it up, and suddenly I felt like I was ready for a professional tournament, even if my skills still resemble a baby giraffe on ice." The grip is super comfy—it is a little on the bigger side, so not for the smallest hands. The lightweight design makes it easy to catch those tricky volleys.  One of my students said they felt like they could send the ball soaring into the stratosphere! Or, you know, at least over the net most of the time. As for the sweet spot, it is excellent covering most of the face of the paddle. The sound? A little on the loud side, makes a satisfying “thwack” that sounds way more impressive than it is. Now, I can’t say we didn’t have a few cringe-worthy moments—like when one of my players tried to smash it like a pro and ended up sending the ball straight into my own face -- that's why I always wear protective goggles. Classic! But hey, if laughter is the best medicine, I might just be the healthiest pickleball player out there. Overall, the LiberAla Paddle is a solid choice for any beginner looking to have a laugh and unleash their inner pickleball guru. Just maybe get some goggles if you’re like some of my students and have a penchant for unintentional self-harm. Happy paddle swinging! Paddle quality: Well made, good carbon fiber face, grip is comfortable and absorbent.  Edge protector is a big plus for beginners.

Good quality and good value for money
Color: 1 Blue and 1 Orange
Love this pickleball paddle set very much because: 1, the quality is great. I’ve purchased two other paddles. The two paddles in this set are satisfied. The feeling of holding them is good and the sound when they hit the pickle balls is satisfying. It’s not heavy, probably due to the honeycomb and carbon fiber material. 2, the colors are pretty and the color patterns are good designed. It’s easy to find our paddles. 3, this set is a good value for money. It contains two paddles, four balls, and a bag. You get everything with good quality with the money for one paddle. Overall, this pickleball paddle set has good quality and good value for money. Worth trying.

Great
Color: 1 Pro White
This new pro-level paddle is an absolute revelation, truly earning its five-star rating. My control instantly improved; dinks became effortless and drops landed precisely where I aimed them. The textured surface generates incredible spin, allowing for shots with wicked curve and dive. Power is readily available, transforming drives into piercing rockets across the court. Even during extended rallies, its balanced feel and quick handling keep me agile at the net. The sweet spot is incredibly generous, providing surprising forgiveness on less-than-perfect contact. It feels remarkably durable, shrugging off aggressive play without a scratch. This paddle doesn't just play well; it feels like a natural extension of my own hand, elevating my entire game. Seriously, if you're looking to upgrade your performance, this is the paddle you need.
