It opens to expose two tiny frames with their original photo frames and covers. The locket currently contains two photos that appear to be original to the piece.
The locket is unmarked, but acid tests for 14k gold. It measures 1 inch from top to bottom by 0.65 inches wide and it weighs 5.9 grams.
