Nosework is a fascinating dive into animal behavior and communication. It is a sport vastly different from most others in terms of training and overall performance. Many people have and will continue to transition to Nosework from performance sports including agility. For both the dog and the handler this transition can be confusing as the “responsibility” for the collective behaviors of sourcing and indicating the location of a hide shifts to the dog more than the handler both in training and execution.  

The agility team develops communication skills based on subtle movements and verbal cues in order to navigate a course. Both members of the team are deeply in tune with each other as they execute turns, change of direction, discriminations, and specific obstacle performance over a course that may have 20 or more obstacles. Nosework, also called Scent Work, is in many ways more handler independent and dog reliant. This can lead to challenges to change the interactions between dog and handler.

This webinar will look at some common challenges for both the dog and handler and strategies to overcome them.
