Butterfly and Moth Meadow Seed Mix

This butterfly and moth meadow seed mix is made up of specially selected native grasses and a high proportion of UK wildflowers, some of which are food plants for butterfly and moth larvae. Like many of our pollinators, butterflies and moths have an intimate and complicated relationship with our native flora.

The flowers have a variety of flower shapes and sizes to provide nectar feeding stations for butterflies, bees, hoverflies and other pollinating insects. This is a colourful seed mix of native wildflowers and grasses which will do well in all other than very acidic or water-logged soils, in full sun. The grasses selected here are particularly important food plants for a variety of butterflies and moths. We also offer similar collections of wildflower plug plants and wildflower seeds for butterflies and moths, but without the grasses. Like all our native wildflower and grass seed, this wildflower seed has guaranteed UK provenance. This mix has a relatively high proportion of wildflowers: grasses, so it's more expensive than most of our meadow mixes.

We recommend a slightly different management regime to other mixes, to create areas of short floral open sward, and tussocky and tall grasses to allow butterfly and moth larvae and pupae to overwinter. This can best be achieved through low density year round grazing. By machine, take a hay cut in late July - early August in most areas but cut every other year in around 1/3 of the site in rotation, to prevent scrub incursion. In smaller sites these areas are best along margins.

35% British native wildflowers, 65% certified grasses.

We strongly recommend reading up on wildflower meadows before buying seed - see our resources section and brief guide to preparation and aftercare, which includes links to our "how to" blogs and video.

Although we test our seed and it has high germination rates, you need to be careful about initial care and establishing an annual regime. Don't be put off though - once you get the hang of it it's pretty straightforward.

Hyena Proof
Color: Acorn - Large, Size: Large
I have an American Bulldog that would chew a brick if he didn’t have an alternative lying around. They won’t last forever (nothing does) but we’ve had two of these over the course of a year and for him that is nothing short of a miracle. And that is daily chewing like it’s his job. I highly recommend the Acornucopia for aggressive chewers with jaws like hyenas…so it’s probably great for your dog too.

This is an awesome product and affordably priced! I'll buy more in the future!
Color: Comet - Small, Size: Small
This is a great ball for my dog Polly! It doesn't stink or have any weird oils on the ball. It is definitely durable. It has a nice chirping sound and it's great exercise for my dog's jaws. It's not too bouncy and it's the perfect weight that she feels satisfied having in her mouth and when she catches it in mid-air. It's not too heavy that I have to worry about it knocking her teeth out. I almost cancelled the order after I found out the size of the ball, I thought it was a larger ball that Bark makes. It turns out it is larger than a tennis ball which is what I wanted. Someone gave us a black, knobby, ball that is 12.5 inches in diameter and she absolutely loves it, it's her favorite ball. It's the perfect size for her American Pit Bull mouth! I cannot find this product anywhere or a comparable alternative that's the same size. If you know where I can purchase another ball that I've described @ 12.5 in. diameter, please let me know! I'll likely buy this ball that was just delivered, today, in the future, if it's not discontinued! It's a great deal for only $14.99!! Thanks from a happy satisfied customer, V.B.

Sort of good for tough chewers??
Color: Deep Roots Carrot - Small, Size: Small Dog
The actual carrot part (orange part) is tough chewer approved and my dog loves. It’s basically the same shape and size as his kong. However the leaves (green part) is not tough chewer approved. He ripped ALL those leaves off and ate them within 5 minutes of me giving him the toy. However they passed through him fine.
