Het familieverhaal van De Bortoli begint 90 jaar geleden. Beginnend met Vittorio en Giuseppina De Bortoli, twee immigranten die het goed maken in een geadopteerd land door hard te werken, innovatie en de steun van familie en vrienden. Vanaf het bescheiden begin met het maken van kleine hoeveelheden droge tafelwijn, voornamelijk voor mede-Europese immigranten, breidde De Bortoli Wines zich uit onder leiding van Vittorio en Giuseppina's energieke zoon Deen en zijn vrouw Emeri. Hun vier kinderen - Darren, Leanne, Kevin en Victor - sloten zich aan bij het familiebedrijf en ontwikkelden De Bortoli's reputatie voor premium wijn, eerst door de iconische dessertwijn Noble One en vervolgens door het succes van de koele klimaatwijnen die geproduceerd werden op het Yarra Valley Estate van de familie. De druiven zijn afkomstig van verschillende wijngaarden uit Heathcote. De oude rode Cambrische bodems van Northern Heathcote zijn ideaal voor donkerfruitige, dikke rode Shiraz. De wijngaarden zijn zorgvuldig geselecteerd op een balans tussen vruchtgewicht en rijpheid. De druiven worden streng geselecteerd om de perfecte kwaliteitswijn te krijgen. Het sap fermenteert gedurende 6 tot 8 dagen bij een gecontroleerde temperatuur van 25 tot 30 graden. Tot slot rijpt de wijn 8 maanden in eikenhouten vaten. De Woodfired Heathcote Shiraz kleur dieprood in het glas met een paarse fonkeling. Direct komt de sterke aroma’s van donker fruit, venkel, olijvenkruiden en donkere chocolade vrij. Healthy, natural treat my dogs actually love—no mess!

These pig ears are the perfect natural alternative to rawhide. All three of my dogs go crazy for them, and I feel good giving them a single-ingredient treat.
What I used them for:
Occasional chew treats for my three dogs.
Pros:
Single-ingredient, natural treat
Dogs love the taste and texture
Doesn’t stain or leave a mess despite slobber
Good size for medium to large dogs
Cons:
Can be a bit odorous out of the bag (minor)
Real experience:

One-and-done treat for giant breeds (our 186lb foster approves)

We foster a 186lb Saint Bernard, and finding treats that actually satisfy her without requiring half the bag has been a challenge. These pig ears? Game changer.
What makes these work:
- ONE ear = one satisfied dog (compared to other treats where the bag says “35 per day” and she’d still beg for more)
- Keeps her busy for about 5 minutes of focused chewing
- She does a little excited dance when she sees the bag—can’t even sit, just wiggles
- Zero crumbs or mess because she devours every single bit, then spends the next hour sniffing around hoping another one appears
- She immediately grabs it and heads to her favorite bed to settle in—doesn’t move until it’s gone
The only “issue”:
There’s a bit of oil/greasiness when handling them, but nothing a quick hand wash can’t fix (Mrs. Meyer’s Cucumber soap works great, just saying).
Bottom line: If you have a giant breed and you’re tired of buying treats that require multiple servings or disappear in one bite, these are it.
