Op deze manier wordt ontbossing tegengegaan, wat belangrijk is om de CO2 uitstoot te verminderen en klimaatverandering te bestrijden. Bij het kappen van bomen houdt FSC® rekening met mens en dier. Het bos wordt opgedeeld in vakken en elk jaar wordt er in een ander vak bomen geoogst, zodat het bos zich kan herstellen.
