Matteo Myderwyk presenteert op 11 januari zijn derde piano album in 18 maanden bij Excelsior Recordings: Ataraxia.
Na To Move en Verses verschijnt op 11 januari Ataraxia. Het nieuwe album telt 13 nummers en vindt zijn oorsprong in de oude wijsbegeerte van Epicurus (431 – 270 voor Chr.) die zijn leerlingen volledige zielsrust trachtte bij te brengen; ataraxia. Volgens Epicurus is ataraxia de eerste stap naar het ware geluk, waarbij muziek het belangrijkste hulpmiddel is om zielsrust te vinden.
Waar op het debuutalbum To Move (2017) improvisatie centraal staat en bij opvolger Verses (2018) harmonische ontwikkelingen de leiding hebben, kiest Matteo op Ataraxia voor de melodie als hoofdrolspeler op het album.
Opnieuw zijn alle nummers titelloos en worden gecategoriseerd in Axioma’s. In de filosofische logica wordt een stelling (axioma betekent stelling) gezien als een niet bewezen bewering die onderbouwd dient te worden. Daarnaast mag deze niet in tegenspraak zijn met andere stellingen. Bij het samenstellen van het album heeft Matteo tracks geselecteerd die niet met elkaar verward kunnen worden, om zo een zeer divers scala aan melodieën te presenteren.
Het album is net als To Move en Verses in twee dagen opgenomen. Ditmaal in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, augustus 2018. Met Ataraxia sluit Matteo zijn driedelige serie piano albums af bij Excelsior.
